As we celebrate and acknowledge our roots, this collaboration connects these roots to art as activism through the colorfully variegated stems, stalks, bracts, and flowers that are the musicians and artists of today. This concert features music composed by members of communities that are typically underrepresented in classical music, including the World Premier of nonbinary composer, Yoshi Weinberg's, "Some People Are Flowers." The concert will take place in the UW Art Museum's galleries amidst artwork by Anne Samat. Samat's work transforms traditional Malaysian Pua Kumbu weaving techniques and industrial materials into anthropomorphic structures that explore identity, gender, individuality, and love.

Please join us in the galleries at 4:30pm for a pre-concert discussion about "Some People Are Flowers" with flautist Nicole Riner and hornist Katherine Smith.
